**The course will be an out and back strava segment starting near the Redondo Beach Pier. Athletes will need to have a Strava profile and record their race on strava to participate(profile must be public to appear in result and receive awards). The start of the race is below the staircase coming down from the bathroom below vets park. The start and finish are marked on the ground with yellow tape in the form of “5k” next to the small stage area on the strand. The race heads south to the lifeguard stand that is after the last bathroom before you hit the bathrooms at the end of the strand. The turnaround location is the lifeguard stand labeled “HR” and there is yellow tape on the ground in the form of the letter “T” for turnaround. Coach Jason Druten
Inside look at West Torrance Cross-Country Coach
Cross-country is a sport where athletes run around town, through parks, and up hills. Most great runners do not start out wanting to do the sport, and some great cross-country coaches do not start out with the intention to win championships, and that is exactly what happened with West Torrance cross-country coach Jason Druten. Druten has had a team on the podium at the last 4 California State Championships, and is arguably one of the top coaches in California.
Druten started his career in his home state of Kansas teaching high school and coaching basketball. He had played soccer growing up and did not do any running races, but the high school he taught at told him that he could coach basketball on the condition that he also coach cross-country. Wanting to make the most out of everything he does, he took on the challenge and engulfed himself in the sport reading about training and going to every coaching clinic he could find. He shortly found himself liking coaching cross-country athletes more than basketball athletes.
Shortly after beginning his career in Kansas he moved out to California and needed a new starting point. That starting point came from an unlikely place. While getting lunch at Snax burger joint in Torrance, CA, Druten met a man named Rob Schars. Mr. Schars happened to be the Principal at Jefferson Middle School, and Druten’s outgoing personality managed to get him hired on the spot (assuming he pass a background check). Druten loved his new beginning, but he was quickly ready for more. He saw a posting for a cross-country coaching position at West Torrance High School and jumped at the opportunity. This time he had the stipulation, he wanted to teach where he coached. West Torrance High found a teaching position for him and the rest is history.
West Torrance Pioneer League Champions
Druten says that he did not expect success when he began, coaching. His goal then and still is today to get kids motivated and help each kid achieve the most out of themselves, no matter what they are striving to achieve. Since his starting point at West, Druten has coached individual and team Champions at all levels. After winning the California State Championships in 2017, the next big goal for the team is to qualify for the high school National Championships this season. Although these are all great accomplishments, Druten says he is most proud when one of his former athletes contacts him to let him know that he is still running. For Druten, the most important thing is that he is giving back and contributing to the young lives of athletes in the community. So what does a coach who has been around West Torrance so long value most about the community? Coach Druten says that the support from West Torrance alumni from the 70’s and 80’s is like nothing he’s ever felt before. He loves the community and appreciates their support.

“Love what you do and you will never work a day in your life.”
Running isn’t easy, I typically ran over 100 miles a week in preparation for qualifying for the Olympic Trials in the marathon. Now I am taking that same level of hard work and preparation and putting it in to the real estate industry.
Let me work hard for you as your Realtor and find you your dream home.
Running is how I have always gotten to know a new area, and now I am using it to get to know my community better. As a cross-country and track coach at West Torrance High School, I am typically running the streets of South Bay and it enables me to find and evaluate new and interesting property in the community before it might hit the market.
I have taken 6 years of sales and marketing experience at Skechers USA headquarters in Manhattan Beach, and combined it with my marathon training work ethic, to help members of our community find their dream home.
Our RE/MAX team combines, knowledge, experience, and work ethic to make life easier on buyers and sellers. I joined the Igor Nastaskin Real Estate Team, because Igor’s knowledge and high ethical standards are something I would value in someone helping me find my own dream home. As the #1 Realtor in the Hollywood Riviera in sales volume for 13 of the last 16 years, including 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, Igor has earned his reputation as one of the best Realtors in the South Bay. With his expertise and my drive and digital marketing reach, I am confident we can help you buy or sell your home.
